I started a blog

Today I started a blog. My hope in this endeavor is to not only improve my writing skills, but to display my creations and to inspire others to make things! I have a passion to create. All kinds of things; turning nothing into something.

Growing up my parents sewed the seeds of creativity. From school projects to weekend crafts, we were always making things. I cherish those memories as I cultivate my craft today. I am a dabbler. I love learning new things and having a variety of ways to express myself creatively. My hope is that this blog will be another creative outlet.

Before I dive into projects I am working on let me tell you about myself. I grew up in Snohomish Washington, in a very creative family. My mother is a sculptor, wood worker, and maker of pretty much anything. My father manufactures stone statuary and is a very talented musician. My sister is a tattoo artist. My brother works with computers (not sure exactly what he does but I know he utilizes his creativity in this line of work). And then there is me, the dabbler. I studied fashion for a few years, I am a self taught sculptor and painter. I thrive in the realm of creative problem solving. I see a glimpse of potential in something and puzzle together possibilities to achieve something awesome, with whatever means necessary. This is what I like a lot about sewing and pattern making, the puzzle. I have a desired outcome and must figure out the steps to get there. On the other side I also enjoy Painting, which is driven more from an emotional center. I'm experiencing the brush strokes as the happen.

Unfortunately these skills are hard to market towards a career. My dream is to open a community art studio. A place where anyone is welcome to come and make things, anything they want. A place to learn, to teach, to try something new! I want to foster creativity in others. Until then I am waiting tables. This job affords me the free time to be creative and make things, but at the cost of being completely unfulfilled. I know it is a just stepping stone in my vocational pursuit.

So here I am.
Trying something new.
I hope you enjoy seeing and reading my story through this blog.

Now go make something,
Shannon
